# Search for words

> Look up definitions, examples, and related vocabulary.

Search looks up catalog words. You can also create a custom word from the same page.

**1. Open Search**

Open [Search](https://app.vocabmonster.com/search).

**2. Enter a word**

Type in the search field and submit. Recent searches appear as shortcuts when you have them.

**3. Choose a result**

Open a result to view details, audio, and related tabs. See [Understanding word card tabs](/help/using-the-app/understanding-word-card-tabs.md).

**4. Save or create**

Save a catalog word, or choose **Create New Word** to add a custom entry. See [Save a word](/help/using-the-app/save-a-word.md) and [Custom words vs catalog words](/help/using-the-app/custom-words-vs-catalog-words.md).
