What these terms cover
These Terms of Service explain the rules for using Vocab Monster (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. “Vocab Monster”, “we”, and “us” refer to the service operator, based in California, United States. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old, meet any higher minimum age required in your region, and have legal capacity to agree to these Terms. If you need a parent or guardian’s agreement under applicable law, obtain it before using the Service.
- Provide accurate account information and keep your credentials confidential.
- Notify us promptly of unauthorized access or security concerns.
Acceptable and prohibited use
- Use the Service for personal or educational vocabulary practice.
- Do not bypass access controls, payment or credit limits, or safety measures; access another person’s account without authorization; or disrupt or overload the Service. Any restrictions on reverse engineering or automated access apply only to the extent permitted by law.
- Do not upload unlawful, infringing, or abusive content.
- Do not use the Service to send spam or interfere with other users.
Saved data and sync
- Your saved words, progress, collections, and packs may be stored in your browser and, when signed in, synced to Supabase. Some features require an account and internet access. Sync may be delayed or fail; keep your own copies of important content. Clearing browser storage does not delete cloud data or cancel billing.
- We may use third-party services (such as Supabase) to provide storage, authentication, and related infrastructure.
Free and paid plans
- Vocab Monster may offer a free plan and paid subscription plans. The current free plan includes 50 saved words, 5 custom collections, and 1 custom pack. Paid plan features and limits are disclosed on the Pricing page.
- Paid subscriptions are billed in advance through Stripe for the monthly or annual interval you select. They automatically renew for the same interval, and your payment method is charged the renewal amount, unless you cancel before renewal. Review the price, currency, interval, and any discount terms at checkout before purchasing.
- Current prices, included credits, and plan limits appear on the Pricing page and at checkout. Changes to an existing subscription are subject to applicable notice, consent, and cancellation rights; a posted update does not override those rights.
Billing, cancellation, and refunds
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers, CVCs, or raw payment method details.
- You can cancel renewal using the cancellation control in Account Settings. The Stripe Billing Portal linked there provides payment-method and billing-history management and any subscription controls available for your plan. Contact support if you cannot access cancellation.
- Canceling renewal leaves the subscription scheduled to end at the close of the current paid period. Access continues while the subscription remains eligible for paid access. Failed payments or an inactive subscription can interrupt paid features. Signing out, clearing browser storage, or deleting your library does not cancel a subscription.
- Cancellation does not automatically issue a refund for unused time. Subscription fees are generally non-refundable except where applicable law requires a refund or we approve one. Contact help@vocabmonster.com about subscription refunds, credit-pack refund requests, or billing questions. This does not limit mandatory withdrawal, cancellation, refund, or other consumer rights.
- Review the final total and any tax shown at checkout. Nothing in these Terms transfers our legally required tax obligations to you.
AI credits and practice content
- AI practice uses credits for delivered content, including content served from stored pools and Default. A delivered AI question uses one credit; AI Memory Match charges one credit per completed board, regardless of the number of pairs. A credit is not a promise of a separate provider generation call or exclusive content.
- Included credits reset each calendar month and do not roll over, including on annual subscriptions. The app shows your remaining allocation and reset time. Monthly included credits are used before purchased credits. If both are exhausted, credit-based practice is blocked until credits become available.
- Credit packs are separate one-time purchases through Stripe and do not create a subscription. Purchased credits do not expire. They are tied to your account; permanent account deletion ends your access to them even though purchase records may be retained. Mandatory refund rights still apply.
- AI-generated questions, definitions, examples, and answers may be inaccurate, biased, or inappropriate. Check important information against reliable sources and report problems. We do not guarantee a learning outcome, exam score, unique output, or uninterrupted access to any particular model.
- AI requests can include your vocabulary context and may use the selected provider or fallback providers. Generated content may be cached or reused as described in the Privacy Policy. Do not submit sensitive personal information or confidential material as learning content.
Deactivating or deleting your account
- You can close your account from Account Settings in one of two ways: deactivate it (recoverable for 30 days) or delete it permanently.
- Deactivating signs you out and locks your account. Your saved words, collections, and progress are kept for 30 days. If you contact us within 30 days we can restore your account. After 30 days, the account is scheduled for permanent deletion. Once deletion completes, we cannot restore it.
- If you have a paid subscription, deactivating cancels it at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and you will not be charged again. If we restore your account while paid days remain, you can keep using the plan until that period ends. After that you would need to subscribe again to have a paid plan.
- Deleting permanently removes your saved words, collections, packs, and progress and cannot be undone. If you have a paid subscription, it is cancelled immediately. The deletion process does not automatically refund unused time or credits; any mandatory refund rights still apply.
- In both cases we confirm the cancellation with Stripe before closing your account, so you are not billed after it is closed. If we cannot confirm it, the account is left unchanged and you can try again.
- After either option we keep limited records, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Privacy and data
Our Privacy Policy explains data collection, AI processing, storage, and deletion. It is a notice about data practices; accepting these Terms is not consent to optional processing where separate consent is required. See Pricing for current plans and limits.
Intellectual property and your content
- All rights in the Service, including the interface, code, and branding, belong to Vocab Monster or its licensors.
- You retain your rights in content you submit. You give us permission to store, sync, display, and process that content, including through the providers described in the Privacy Policy, as needed to provide the features you use. You must have the rights needed to submit it. This does not transfer ownership of your content to us.
- Do not use our trademarks or branding without permission.
Changes and availability
- We may update or discontinue features, subject to your paid access and any mandatory notice, refund, or other consumer rights.
- The Service may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance or outages.
Termination
- We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or misuse the Service.
- You may stop using the Service at any time. To stop recurring charges, cancel renewal or use the account-closing controls described above. Clearing local data alone does not remove synced records.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
- To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” without additional warranties. Mandatory guarantees and remedies remain available.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vocab Monster is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, revenue, or profits.
- These exclusions do not apply where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited, including any applicable liability for fraud or injury. Nothing in these Terms limits statutory consumer rights, including any applicable California consumer protections or rights under other laws that cannot be waived by contract.
Questions and disputes
If you have a dispute, you can contact help@vocabmonster.com to seek a resolution. Contacting us is not a required step before exercising legal rights. These Terms do not select a governing jurisdiction or exclusive court, require arbitration, or waive statutory rights; applicable law determines your rights and available forums.
Updates to these terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with an updated date. Where applicable law requires notice or agreement before a change takes effect, those requirements apply. Changes do not remove rights you have already acquired under applicable law.
